Office Space Needed!
Starting my own business is a struggle to say the least and working from a desk in my bedroom really wasn’t cutting it for me! All i wanted to do was get into bed – but who can blame me its cosy and warm right?! I found myself working under the covers a lot and lets be honest that not very productive!
The property I am currently living in had a huge garage in the garden that wasn’t really used for anything but clutter! VJ (my dad who is actually a builder) and myself got together and cleared the whole garage out binning a lot of things not needed. 2 skips and 5 trips to the dump later we created a space where I could work comfortably, but also an area in the back where he could store all his belongings.
We didn’t really have a design in mind but taking inspiration from the industrial look (that I was particularly fond of) I began to get creative. I also liked the idea of a bricked wall, before the inside started there was the original brick wall but due to how cold it can get out there we needed to cover and plaster the wall. Not coming away from this idea we ordered different designs of brick slates and tested them out before picking our favourite. We ordered which we thought would be enough but unfortunately we were 5 bricks short! Luckily the company we ordered them from were nice enough to send the 5 remaining for free. Adding this wall really started to make the space feel more warm and welcoming.
Im OBSESSED with black at the moment i just think it creates something magical when decorating with it. I really do think it adds that drama and definition to a space and has also become a very popular colour of choice recently!
We added large bi fold doors that sees out onto the drive way! (ignore the mess that you can see – thats all recently been cleared away) During the summer the idea of having the doors open allowing the outside in gives me an excited feel! Our last step was the flooring although i liked the look of just a cement flooring it wasn’t ideal so we painted the floor with a grey garage floor paint and added area rugs for warmth.
Adding final touches of decoration and lighting I now have a space where i can get creative and also a space where i can relax!
I would love to hear about your office spaces too!
