Sustainable homes
In this blog, I’m going to give you a few tips you can use when renovating your home. A lot of them can be cost-efficient too.
1. My number one ask when working alongside my builders is to see if they could reuse any materials they already have. Reusing and recycling existing materials can also add some character to your home, whilst also maybe building a story behind it.
So what kind of thing can you recycle?
If you’re having a kitchen renovation and the units are in good condition, is there any way that you could give them a fresh cover of paint, this way you could change the colour too.
Or maybe even just buying new doors if the carcasses are ok.
You could even take your old kitchen and try to sell it.
Or move it to another part of the house where it could be used.
2. Brings me to my next tip, could you buy a second-hand kitchen or even an ex-display one. Not only will it save you thousands it will also keep it from doing to the dump!
Heres one someone mentioned to me before: https://www.theusedkitchencompany.com/product-category/kitchens-for-sale/
They have lots of different styles there’s one there for everyone!
3. Keep to using low VOC paints, a lot of companies now provide paints that are low in VOC from Farrow and Ball, Earthborn paints to Dulux.
4. Allow as much natural light in as you can. Not only does this help with your health by boosting your vitamin D and B and energy levels its also proven to lift your mood!
You could do this by adding bifold, fitting larger windows or even changing the position of your current windows.
5. Lastly, remember to shop local, and visit your small business around your town (a lot will be into sustainable living too). Whilst you’re putting back into your community you’re also keeping fuel emissions down.
Some small home decor businesses recommended to me are:
