7 tips on decorating a hallway

Happy new year from everyone here at JCavaree Interiors! We hope you had a lovely break and ready to kick start this new year with more idea, design and tips.

Due to having a project on at the moment, which is based around a hallway, I thought I would give you 7 tips to keep in mind when designing your hallway.

1. When entering your house if the first area you see isn’t organised and clear this carries out throughout the house. Having storage area for shoes so that they are not left on the floor creates a visual to what the rest of the house will look like. At the moment we have an area for people that live in my house to put their shoes and a small rack for guests to put their shoes when they’re over.

2. Having an area for guests to hang their coats. We have two areas to hang costs in our house, one area is for people that live/long staying and another area for guests that are here for the day/ evening.

3. Choosing the right flooring for your hallway can be challenging. Remember this area has high traffic so you need something that will last and not show all the little pieces of dirt. Things I would recommend is things like, geometric styled tiles (which is a fav choice for an area like this), tiles that are dark to as they’re easier to clean. Wooden floors are also a good choice for the same reasons as tiles. Really I would stay away from carpets as some people don’t know the ‘no shoe rule’ if this is applied to your house and may carry dirt through.

4.If your hallway is only small or narrow opt for bright colours, this will give the illusion of this area being larger. Don’t be afraid to add some colour, light blues, greens and yellows. Whites are not an ideal option to have for a hallway due to scuff and marks that can happen. (shhh don’t tell anyone but we have chosen this in our hallways).

5. A great way to make your hallway seem larger is adding a large mirror. 1 this will help bounce light around the room and 2 it creates the illusion of a larger space. (also another great perk is you can check your outfit and yourself before leaving the house)

6. Consider understairs storage. A lot of people have this area closed, open it up add some doors or drawers and create some more storage options for you! You can never have enough storage options!

7. Last but definitely not least… lighting, add pockets of light to your hallway to create character and a cosy, homely feel. Sometimes a hallway can be full of hard surfaces so these pockets will definitely help to break that up.

I hope this helped; comment bellow a tip you may like to share to, I know there’s lots out there.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and week and ill see you next week! Talk soon and take care!
